Lara Quigaman, crowned Miss International 2005, has taken on a new and inspiring role—this time, not on stage but in the classroom. In an interview with OMNI News Filipino, Lara opened up about her new life in Canada, where she now works as a preschool teacher.

"Preschool teacher ako, meron akong four classes ng preschool. After nun, out-of-school care. Iba’t ibang age group 'yung nahahawakan ko, which is good too kasi masarap 'yung feeling na iba-ibang level ng bata 'yung nakakasama ko, nakakausap ko," she shared.

Lara and her husband, actor Marco Alcaraz, along with their children, made the big move to Canada in April 2024. Interestingly, Canada has always held sentimental value for the couple.

“Dito kami kinasal—2011, January 1. Kasi nandito 'yung mama ko eh, so lagi naming binibisita. Nung first time naming pumunta ni Marco, napag-usapan talaga namin na parang masarap mag-raise ng family dito,” Lara recalled.

Pursuing Her Passion in Education

Even before the move, Lara had her heart set on becoming an educator. She later found out that teachers are in demand in Canada, which gave her more motivation to chase this dream.

“Nung nag-decision kami kung anong kukunin kong course, sabi ko talaga gusto kong maging preschool teacher, gusto kong maging ECE (Early Childhood Educator). So parang tinuloy ko lang 'yung pangarap ko.”

Her efforts bore fruit when she proudly announced in June 2025 via Instagram that she had completed her Diploma in Early Childhood Education.

Faith-Fueled Journey

In another touching Instagram post, Lara reflected on their family's journey and how their faith led them through the transition.

“Our family has always prayed that God would lead us to a place where we could be closer to one another and to Him—wherever that may be, no matter how difficult the path,” she wrote.

“Today, as I attended my convocation ceremony, we also celebrate His goodness and faithfulness. I’m teary-eyed typing this, because today is the beautiful result of every sacrifice and challenge we’ve faced and overcome by His grace.”

Leaving a Life Behind

Lara admitted that leaving the Philippines was not easy, especially since both she and Marco had established careers. However, she emphasized that this move was not just a leap of faith—it was also a dream long planted in their hearts.

From a beauty queen to a dedicated educator, Lara Quigaman’s journey continues to inspire many Filipinos—proving that it’s never too late to start a new chapter, especially when it’s rooted in purpose and love.
